How We Compare eSIMs
A useful recommendation starts with your requirements and shows the evidence behind the choice.
What enters the shortlist
We compare packages in our catalogue for your selected destination. A recommendation needs a known price, data allowance and validity. Provider-page links and packages that still require a tariff selection stay in the field report for research.
A plan must cover the whole trip-length range you choose and meet the briefing's estimated data allowance. If you ask for normal calls, SMS or hotspot, the stored package must explicitly support them. If no package meets your requirements, the briefing explains that instead of treating a compromise as a match.
How the choices differ
- Sarge's Pick: the best overall match under our published factors: trip fit, price/value, provider reliability, activation, network information and country context.
- Lowest listed GBP price: the lowest recorded total price among suitable packages with exact GBP prices checked within 30 days.
- Best listed GBP / GB: the lowest recorded GBP cost per GB among suitable fixed-data packages within our allowance limit, using prices checked within 30 days. The allowance limit is up to three times your estimated use, or 2.5 times for light use, with room for at least 2GB extra. Unlimited-style packages do not have a meaningful fixed cost per GB.
Each category is evaluated independently. One plan can earn more than one badge. Commission is not an input to any of these rankings.
What the estimates mean
Data needs are estimates based on trip length and the usage option you select. Your actual use may differ. Provider and network reliability factors are editorial assessments from available information, not measured guarantees of speed or coverage.
We do not silently compare the face values of different currencies. Price and value badges use exact GBP prices checked within 30 days. Other currencies remain labelled, and provider checkout determines the final amount, taxes and any promotion eligibility. The catalogue does not cover every package on the market.
Sources and check dates
Our sources include public provider pages and supplier catalogue feeds. A price-check date records when that price was obtained. A rules-check date records package-feature evidence. A link-check date concerns the destination of a link. Updating one does not prove the others are current.
When a separate date is unavailable, we label the older catalogue check as such. Information older than 30 days, or without a usable check date, needs a fresh provider check and is labelled accordingly. A catalogue check does not mean a plan was personally tested in the destination.
Automated imports are validated before publication. Failed refreshes must preserve the last usable catalogue instead of creating new verification dates. Always check activation timing, coverage, fair-use, hotspot and refund conditions before purchase.
